On June 30th and July 1st 2018, the first European Invitational BBQ Championship sanctioned by KCBS and dedicated to the BBQ American style is back to Italy, hosted at the Bonaventura Maschio Distillery at its historical facilities in Gaiarine Treviso, Italy. Eighteen top teams from all over Europe will gather in Veneto to take part in the “Prime Uve Invitational Barbecue Championship”, a true US-style competition. Access is by invitation only.
At Prime Uve the teams will have to prove their worth in six categories.
Next to the four classics KCBS, Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket, are two extra inspired by Prime Uve’s grape distillates (Prime Uve Bianche, Nere and Oro).
CHICKEN, white and dark chicken meat.
RIBS, smoked pork ribs served in Kansas City style, smoked and glazed with barbecue sauce, or in Memphis style, i.e. with a dry spice rub.
PORK, this preparation is usually made with Boston Butt, a pork cut that includes a part of the shoulder and the neck.
BRISKET, Beef brisket cooked and smoked in one piece.
The contest is sanctioned by KCBS, a non profit organization dedicated to the promotion of barbecue competitions in the world. At the competition in Gaiarine, twenty-four certified KCBS judges, chosen because of their expertise and experience and coordinated by four Table Captains, will blind-taste the preparations and will vote on appearance, taste and tenderness. A jury of food and wine experts who will express their preference by awarding a special prize will judge the “BBQ and Cocktail Pairing” category.
18 teams altogether are participating at the “Prime Uve Invitational Barbecue Championship”. 15 are the top European Teams according to the KCBS ITOY EUROPE 2017 official ranking. In addition, there will be 3 teams, selected through a draw among all teams that competed in one of the previous editions of the Prime Uve Invitational Barbecue Championship, who did not qualify for the fourth.
